Redbrick EPCs

Introduction

The new Housing Bill was implemented in June 2007 and as part of this legislation it is a requirement for any dwelling or non-dwelling that is constructed, sold or let to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), and for all public buildings to display Display Energy Certificates (DECs).

EPCs and DECs

An EPC provides an energy rating for a building, which is based on the performance potential of the building itself. It is accompanied by a report that provides recommendations on how the energy performance could be improved.

DECs are required for public buildings following inspection by an Energy Assessor. DECs show the actual energy usage of a building, its Operational Rating, and provide information to the public about the energy efficiency of a building.
